Many of us have gotten lazy when it comes to password storage. We use the same password for many of the sites that we visit or we use the built in features of our browsers. I would like to introduce you to LastPass. This product is owned by LogMeIn and offers a better method to store your passwords. Let’s go over what is provided by the LastPass service and what you will receive for free or a small fee.
LastPass has implemented AES-256 bit encryption with PBKDF2 SHA-256 and salted hashes to ensure complete security in the cloud. You’ll create a password manager account with an email address and a strong master password to locally-generate a unique encryption key. Your data is encrypted and decrypted at the device level. Data stored in your vault is kept secret, even from LastPass. Your master password, and the keys used to encrypt and decrypt data, are never sent to LastPass’ servers, and are never accessible by LastPass. You have the ability to multifactor authentication and it is recommended to ensure that your passwords are protected.
LastPass has a free tier which is fine for most of us. For free you have access to store your passwords with not many bells or whistles. You can store your passwords for browser and all your devices. They have applications for Android, Apple, and Microsoft devices.
LastPass has many features such as:
- Autofill
- Password Vault
- Digital Wallet
- Password Manager
- Password Generator
- Username Generator
- LastPass Authenticator
- Dark Web Monitoring
So before you use autofill from Chrome or other browsers think about switching to a stronger way of accessing your accounts. LastPass is a safe and a better password practice than many of the other methods. Lets all prevent identity theft and ensure our logins are protected together.
